The Independent Wargames Group. Being a Journal of views, prejudices, ideas and photographs of wargaming not just nationwide, but hopefully world wide. The name IWG was adopted in the early 1980's in response to the then dominant Wargames Research Group, but things have moved on, and wargaming appears to be in somewhat of a Golden Age, so sit back and hopefully enjoy my rantings.

Von Rochow Fusiliers
The figures are Black Hussar Prussian Fusiliers, and a pleasure to paint. Well they would have been if I hadnt been fretting about the green.I particularly like the officer figure, who stands very jauntily with his partizan. I have now started work on a Saxon line regiment, from Eureka Miniatures, which are also very nice, but smaller than Black Hussar. For any pedants on Saxon uniforms, I painted them in their 1750 uniform, which meant they were resplendent in red trousers.
Love the red trousers!
ReplyDeleteYou cant beat a pair of jaunty pants.
DeleteAgreed! Stunning brushwork there.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thanks Stokes, they are a pretty unit.
DeleteThose look great Robbie. Red trousers are fantastic, just unusual not to see them on a Frenchman.
ReplyDeleteConrad,
DeleteThe Saxons were a fun loving country too.
Nice looking unit. I always felt the Saxons got a raw deal in the 7YW so great to them getting on the board. I agree, the Black Hussar miniatures are excellent figures. Have you gloss varnished the figures?

I gloss varnish all my figures. I use Revell or Games Workshop gloss varnish. Although I do like matt varnished figures, I gave up years ago trying to find a consistent matt finish for my troops. Plus gloss lifts the colours.
DeleteVery nice unit - like the red trousers
ReplyDeleteCheers Allan,
DeleteI enjoy your site a lot.
Awesome colors!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil,
DeleteTotally un historic, but its great to have colourful toys.
Very nice indeed - the brass mitre fronts are particularly effective.
ReplyDeleteChris,
DeleteIts an old trick. Brass, washed in ink, followed by GW Mithril silver.
