Austrian Horse Grenadiers.

Well I managed to find time this week to paint this unit for Colin's re fight of the Battle of Reichenburg, as the Austrians fielded a unit of Horse Grenadiers in the encounter. I surprised myself on how quickly I put these together and painted them. I still think that Peter Gilders designs for the horses in his Foremost range take some beating. They were ahead of their time in general design and movement.  There is always an issue in fielding a newly painted unit in a wargame, invariably they do badly and rout. Still they will look pretty as they flee the table.

    1. Afternoon Graham,
They never got in the action, and spent the game watching things happen around them.

    1. The horses are Foremost, from Hinchliffe, and the grenadiers are from the Hinchliffe SYW range, still a good figure after all these years.

  4. Agree entirely with your view on Gilders foremost horses- only Stadden are as good- and that a more limited selection. I have a Foremost ECW cavalry unit and intend to add more to the armies.

    1. Andy, my favourite is still the ECW unit, showing Rupert's charge at Edgehill, great movement for both horse and rider.

  5. They look absolutely great and its a shame that on their first outing they were held in reserve (by me) and therefore unable to show those damned Prussians what they were made of.
