Everyone loves trains, well at least I do. So when you put real steam trains together with Wargames, whats not to like. This is a reminder that I will be attending Shildon Locomotion Railway Museum this Sunday for the Stand To Wargames Show.
We will be putting on a 28mm Renaissance battle between the Ottoman Turks and the Venetians.
There are 20 plus traders attending, so with me, the traders, a lot of old steam trains, a cafe, and minimal entry fee its a win win situation.
I have even heard that Pete Waterman and Rod Stewart are attending.
I may actually have made that part up, but you never know.
The Independent Wargames Group. Being a Journal of views, prejudices, ideas and photographs of wargaming not just nationwide, but hopefully world wide. The name IWG was adopted in the early 1980's in response to the then dominant Wargames Research Group, but things have moved on, and wargaming appears to be in somewhat of a Golden Age, so sit back and hopefully enjoy my rantings.

This passed me by .... Tried Googling it after I saw the above post- no real info of any kind- just a few comments on the lines of No real info of any kind..... Mind you TMP was down for maintainance
ReplyDeleteNot really worth my while trading there but it might- like Durham have been worth doing a game- if
A/. I'd known of its existance and
B/. I could get some TWATS to help
Maybe next year..... maybe .....
I'll be making my way to Shildon on the day, with camera this time.
ReplyDeleteAs to the lack of show information (as Big Andy commented above) I have to agree with him.
I did find a show flier for Shildon at York, back in February, so some effort has been made to advertise. But it then took me to mention it to Stuart (of Col. Bills) that the show was running this year for him to know of its continued existence. If the organisers don't even contact the traders from the last show...
Anyway, I'm hoping for a good day out.
I look forward to seeing you on the day. I understand if you google either Tee Locomotion Shildon it will show some brief details, and it is also on the council site.
ReplyDeleteBut you ALREADY have to know about it to find out about it , You have to be aware that Shildon exists and that the town council exists. Now someone from that show did contact me last year- didn't give his name- but no contact this year so how are blokes to know.
DeleteHardly good advertising practice. Does this count as a "good" event in your book Robbie..... one thats a secret ! .. and yes I am taking the ****!!!
But seriously what do the organisers and the traders expect when nobody knows about it.
Since it would- even excluding any show fees- around £250.00 to do the show (Van Hire , Crew wages, a tiny bit of diesel) then you can see why I'm not anxious to trade there.
Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteBeen a long time since I was last in Shildon. It was still a thriving railway town then. My wifes family were Shildon born and bred and many of them worked in the sheds and workshops. Must have changed a great deal in the last 40 odd years
ReplyDeleteMorning Robert,
ReplyDeleteI was based in Shildon as their detective for a year?It wasnt the most pleasant place to work.
I'm afraid the town will have changed a great deal since you remember it. The rail museum however is very good and the local town council are trying very hard to lift things.
see you there Robbie - yeah not lot of info on the show, just word of mouth !!
ReplyDeleteSometimes thats the best type of event. It makes it more intimate John.
DeleteHi Robbie great game last Sat.Think they have missed a beat by not inviting back people who turned up last year to the first show
ReplyDeleteBrian Westerhope Wargames.
