Mississippians.

Well I somehow managed to find time to paint some of my figures that I bought at Salute 2017, this time some Foundry rebels. The sculpts have stood the test of time well, considering they are well over 25 years old. They show just how gifted the Perry Twins are. Somehow I have without planning it, managed to have the making for a brigade of Mississippians, so I may as well get another unit to complete the brigade.
I have been lucky enough to win a regiment of Foundry Union castings off E Bay for a decent price. I think that was because they were in greatcoats, so they aren't too popular. However it was the figure I wanted, simply because I wanted to field The Mozart Regiment of volunteers, who I believe were dressed in opera type overcoats, plus they had a natty flag. [ah historical relevance] So another in inadvertent add on for my Union forces. Like most wargamers the magpie effect kicks in regularly, no matter ones best intentions. The problem will be exacerbated when I hopefully get to Partizan at the end of the month, more temptations and distractions I think.
                                                            My Mississippian brigade.

  1. Wonderful additions to your forces Robbie (love the mix of Standing and lying positions), and a great job on the bases as well...

    1. Thanks Phil,
I know uniforms were pretty drab in the ACW, but I like to exaggerate the colours, to make them stand out. Not accurate but pleasing to the eye. I hope.

  2. Superb looking Mississippi brigade, Robbie. Those Foundry sculpts are quite animated and full of motion. The colorful regiment appears to have helped itself to a Federal depot holding Yankee greatcoats. Great stuff!

    1. Thanks Jonathan,
I opted to paint units that fought in the early part of the war, they were still naively decking themselves in uniforms not fit for purpose. Well thats what I tell myself.

Your Malburian project is continuing, which is great to see. When do you think you will have enough. Daft question really.

Its a pain super gluing arms, but they are still a great figure to use.

  5. Robbie, The regiment of Mississippians is probably my favourite unit you have showcased on your blog, the regiment as a whole looks so 'active', great figures and paint job again. Also I had a trial game of the Pickets Charge rules with my dad last weekend and like yourself I really enjoyed them once I got the basics game mechanics into my head, I liked the twists to the game, ie see the elephant test and serendipity test really added fun to the game, well having said that as a result of the 'dipity' test I saw my brigade of 'old lags' quickly abandon their position of holding my left flank and leg it quick time!!

    2. Neil,
I may have to change the flags, because I can actually get the correct standards for Barksdale's brigade, which were a crack group of regiments. The equal of the Texans. As for Picketts Charge, they work well dont they. Nothing can be taken for granted.

    3. Brian,
Dont overdo the drinking, and keep John out of Poundstretchers, otherwise he will be bringing back some new plastic soldiers. As for a big bash. I dont think Ive seen your armies on the blog and would John accept different rules. You know he can only cheat with his own efforts..

  7. Another lovely ACW unit you've knocked out, I like the slightly exaggerated colours, they work really well.

    1. Iain,
I cant help myself with the colours. It seemed a drab war , but light blue and grey does look well when lightened.
