Salute Part Two.

Now that I have had some sleep, I can now hopefully write a fuller account of Salute 2016.
Usually at a wargames show, there will be one standout game if you are lucky, I think Salute managed to produce three absolutely top notch games, and several very good quality eye catching games. For me the best games were, Ian Smith's 40mm Napoleonic game,Bill Gaskin's absolutely wonderful Seven Year's War table and the Crewe and Nantwich, 28mm Siege of Bristol, all were of the finest quality as regards overall presentation, and figure painting, and of course in Bill Gaskin's case in figure design.

  Looking at all three games, it brought home just why I love wargaming, for the spectacle, colour and skill involved in producing these games makes me want to grab a paint brush and attempt to emulate what I had seen. [ sorry]
Anyway in part three I will give a review of the show overall, and the things I found of interest.

    I thought Bills game was excellent - if I could fault it in any way it was the lack of skin tight tshirts that was such a highlight of our efforts 😂

    I agree, with just a little "perhaps" in the case of the 40mm/Napoleonic game.. good looking but not 100% my cup of tea....

      Scale is reletive for me, if the figures look good, and of course they were very good.

      Gah - that's the danger of expressing a view, Ian... :o(( The game was lovely, and the only reason it didn't score highly with me was because it's not really my scale or period - purely personal view... saying that, I did stop and take a picture or two, though, and there were hundreds I didn't... :o))

      Ian - I've checked my photo's again - and somehow in my mind (I blame old age and galloping mental infirmity) I got you mixed up with the that Napoleonic 54mm affair... public apology - yours was a lovely looking game... and as soon as I can sort the photos out I'll get some up on the blog... well done...

    The curse of wargaming photography strikes again: all of the SYW pix of infantry only show their back sides rather than the front side. :(

    Did I see some unpainted figures in the fantasy game pix?

    The Gaskin game is amazing. I love the vignette of the looters loading up the wagon. I might have to nick that idea.

      Sorry about that Jim, one of the problems was the table was rammed with onlookers. I did manage to talk to Bill Gaskin, who is a very decent bloke. To really appreciate the figures you really need to have seen them, they were beautiful, especially his Hanoverians, with flags by the ubiquitous Mark Allen.

    Thanks for posting these Robbie as after winning best of show Sith Ian's 40mm game which I painting a lot on ...I also painting many of the exe stuff you have here and that got runner up best if show ...so great day for me all round...lol

      Was trying to say that I had my work on both Ian's and the ECW bristol game so I got both best of show and runner up but it came out all wrong..lol

      I didnt realsie that you had painted a lot of the figures on the ECW game, I have to take my hat off to you, I thought that was a wonderful game, you should feel very proud. Youre not as daft as you look.
