The months of May and June have played havoc with my painting programme, and to be honest when the sun actually shines it can be difficult to sit at my painting table.Anyway I finally finished a few figures for my Saxon contingent. The infantry are from the Eureka 28mm range, which are expensive but are very good figures. Again I painted the figures in the pre 1756 uniform, with coloured trousers.
This Hinchlffe cuirassier unit are more figures from my secondhand store, which I have repainted as Saxons, still one of my favourite wargaming figures.
Finally a company of French Garde du Corps supplied by Graham at Crann Tara Miniatures, a lovely figure, with only another 18 to paint up.
The Independent Wargames Group. Being a Journal of views, prejudices, ideas and photographs of wargaming not just nationwide, but hopefully world wide. The name IWG was adopted in the early 1980's in response to the then dominant Wargames Research Group, but things have moved on, and wargaming appears to be in somewhat of a Golden Age, so sit back and hopefully enjoy my rantings.

Lovely!
ReplyDeleteBut are they effective fighters Colin, that's the question.
DeleteAll good stuff Robbie, very impressive. Lots of inspiration for my Saxon army for next year.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait Graham. Robbie, we could do Keseldorf now with what we have between us.
DeleteIt looks like my 'contingent' could end up as an army.
DeleteYou know, I was just mulling over Saxon SYW (more or less) uniforms today. What a nice surprise to log into Blogger and see this post. Your figures look, as usual, amazing. I cannot decide which of the three units features I like most.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thank you Stokes. I have always been interested in Saxony, from Augustus the Strong through to the Napoleonic Wars. They always seemed a well dressed army with some lovely regiments. Are you aware that Graham from Crann Tara is releasing a range of SYW Saxons next year, I will be using them as well.
DeleteThank you for the encouragement.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Robbie but beware you know what usually happens to new units as soon as you put them into the fray
ReplyDeleteAre you putting a Participation Game on next Month?
we have come up with one mainly down to John hope it all goes well for Dave and his Mate but ihave to say I am not sure about having all Participation Games but we will give it our best.
Evening Brian,
DeleteNew units always do badly, or in my case worse than their usual crap. I did give a lot of thought to staging a participation game using large plastic figures, stealing from you basically. But to be honest there is no appetite to stage such a game, I will attend though, and give you lot a bit gip, so please wear your pink shirts. Unless they have shrunk that is.
Great additions to your collection, love the Saxons
ReplyDeleteThanks Allan, that's very kind.
DeleteRobbie,
ReplyDeleteNice figures as always. Will these be appearing at the weekend?
Yes Paul, they are making a debut at the AMG, so I expect them to rout pretty quickly.
DeleteI got to play with Robbie's Saxons at AMG 16 and did not let him down - 3 out of 5 battalions got destroyed, two of them without firing a shot!
ReplyDeleteChris
Beautiful looking army. I've long been tempted to build a Saxon 7yw army and this makes it even more
ReplyDeleteNice miniatures, I'm impressed - the terrain makes your figures look very epic on the battlefield!
ReplyDeleteFantastic blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
