Normal service will be resumed soon [Hopefully]

Sometimes unfortunately real life interferes with my world and causes me to simply stop wargaming altogether. Sadly the New Year has been one of these times when reality breaks into my cosy world. I suppose it was inevitable that I would suffer from some sort of flu related illness after my exertions during the Christmas period.
I admit it I don't make a good patient and cannot suffer in silence. I knew I was ill when I managed to consume a bottle of whiskey [which I normally wouldn't drink] in the matter of a week. It did help me sleep.I must be recovering as the second bottle has been put away.
Sadly my minor illness was nothing to the news that my oldest school friend died shortly after his birthday after a long hard battle with cancer. The funeral will finally happen tomorrow. There's not much point in writing here about our friendship which spanned some 52 years, all I can bear to say is that I will miss him considerably and that there is a giant void which he used to inhabit.
As a result of these real life reminders I have done very little in the way of painting. Somehow I managed to complete a unit of Parliamentarian dragoons and an artillery crew for my Hinchliffe project. They are not the best I've painted but that is understandable in my defence. Usually I am able to shut out real life and disappear into my wargaming world. It has stood me in good stead all of my adult life when things were getting very very stressful but for some reason I was unable to do so this time, I personally blame the damned whiskey.

  1. Condolences on the loss of a friend, lost but never forgotten.

Your dabble with the paints during a difficult time has at least moved your project further forwards than anything I have done this year and I can't even blame the flu! I always like your application of base furniture

    1. Well Im back. Norm base furniture has become a bit of a signature theme for me Im afraid. I started using stuff in order to not have to paint extra figures. Now I paint the extra figure and STILL use the bits as well.

  2. Sorry to hear about your friend. It’s always difficult to loose someone you’ve known almost all your life.
As for the whiskey, or was it whisky, it’s a perfect cure all for flu-type things but does lower the mood. Anyway, those figures look very good to me. Perfect in terms of the style you’re after. All the best.

  5. Sorry to hear about your pal Rob. Sounds like you're gonna miss him. I've had the flu cold nastiness too, my bottle of Napoleon helped me get through it The figures look pretty cool to me anyway.

    1. Thanks Ray. I actually dont like the taste of whiskey, well not since my 21st birthday, luckily heavy colds etc kill the taste and smell.

    1. John as you know we are a tough breed in Gods Country. By the way I placed an order with Warrior Miniatures. Very impressed with the service and the figures.

  7. Echoing all the above, my sincere condolences on the loss of your pal. Sooner or later we have to put up with losses like this (unless we go first of course!), but they hit hard when they come.
On a lighter note, the painting looks great, and I love the picket fences. Sets them in the 70's (add a few dwarf conifers and a rockery and you'll be there).
    best regards

  10. Condolences Robbie, like you and many others the 'hobby' is a great place to retreat. Put the whiskey away celebrate the life of your friend today and carry those memories with you.
It's been 5 years since Lee died but I can still hear him on occasions laughing at me when I'm considering starting a new period.
    All the best
