A Request.

Having probably more time on my hands than is good for a person, but I have noticed the dearth of posts emanating from other wargaming bloggers that in the past posted very regularly. I appreciate that other people actually have lives outside of the wargames bubble, but it is starting to become something of a concern as to what is actually happening.
There will always be people that drop out of the blogging world for whatever reason, but the lack of activity suggests to me that there is something going on, that I am not aware of.
Being a digital Luddite it wouldn't take much for me to have missed a seismic move in the wargaming world where everyone has shifted to.
So all sensible suggestions on a postcard slowly and clearly explaining where I should be looking would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Truthfully I post when I can, usually after I have participated in a good game or when I have finished a decient size unit. I do it not particularly to keep to a schedule or really to please anyone else but because I want to. It's really why I do the blog, more of arecord for me to look back on. If other people enjoy it then all well and good but if not then what the hey! I look at other posts if they have something I'm interested on in them but I don't spend ages doing it. Your stuff usually has a good number of interesting bits though so do keep up the good work.

    1. Dave,
The post was more a concern that I have missed something and wargaming bloggers have moved into another area to communicate which I had invariably missed.

  2. I try to post at least once a week or so , generally figures I have painted or battle reports and the odd non- wargaming topic . I originally started blogging as a sort of visual diary of my hobby progress . http://tonystoysoldiers.blogspot.co.uk/ , Tony

    1. Tony,
Honestly its not a criticism, more an observation that something is changing in the wargaming digital world, that I have missed.I fully appreciate that most bloggers have a life.

  3. Robbie,
dont worry,3 weeks of daily trips to the hospital to see mam played havoc with daily life. Now I've managed to get her in a home there is a gradual return to normality although I'm way behind on preparations for Salute but I do aim to start posting more often again

    1. Alright Graham,
I know about your Mam, and know exactly how that takes over ones life, and rightly so. You only have one Mam.Hopefully I will see you at Salute where you can buy me a tea, or most likely vice versa.

  4. I think there is much more activity on Facebook. There are lots o specialist groups (I am in a FB Group just for Iron Warriors 30K players for instance). Lots of people post stuff on these groups that I think would have gone onto blog pages before.

    1. The penny is beginning to drop regarding Facebook, which was a medium I viewed as akin to the Devil. I just need to understand how a post on my blog can transfer automatically to my Facebook. Easy once I know how to switch the computer on.

  5. I'm afraid old chap that I have had to take it easy on blogging of late. Mrs Kinch suffered heart failure after the birth of the Kinchlets, so things have been busy there. Unfortunately my concussion has resulted in some brain damage, so until I've been restricted in my reading until the physio does the job. Frustrating, but there you are.

  6. life does get in the way and recently this has never been more true. I like blogging and will continue to use this as a place for my wargaming activities. facebook I use for other reasons although a lot of wargamers are in my "Friends" but FB does tend to have a lot of political posts that have no place on a blog.

    1. Paul,
I am trying very hard to keep away from the politics issue.Certainly if I want to avoid various death threats etc.

  7. I try to post regular game reports, as we game most weeks at least once, and intersperse those with figures I've painted or occasional comment pieces. However, I've also discovered that posting on Facebook is far easier than using Blogger & Photobucket!

Thats the issue for me. I dont trust Facebook and have found that Blogger offers more. As I said I am a Luddite.

As I have said work and family have to take priority. When you attain decrepitude you can fester on the minor issues of life, ie which figures to paint first etc.

  9. Many of the blogs I follow continue posting on a regular basis. While some have slowed or appear on hiatus, as you say, that is SOP for blogging as interest ebbs and flows.

My own non-scientific observations lead me to posit that while some bloggers may have drifted off to either Facebook or Google+ (I am not on Facebook to confirm but I do see more activity on Google+), I wonder if the recent conclusion of Curt's annual Analog Hobbies Painting Challenge has left many exhausted. This painting marathon begins on the first day of winter and ends on the first day of spring. With nearly 100 participants from the blogosphere, their attention has been significantly diverted during this three month period. While engaged with the Painting Challenge, many post only to Curt's blog. Will postings pick up after all participants have recovered? We shall see.

My blogging activity has not diminished (yet).

    1. Jonathan,
Correct as usual. I believe that I am hooked up to Google+ but dont understand what it actually does, similarly with Facebook,I never understood the fascination with showing all and sundry what you are eating for tea etc. Plus in a former life I came up against the full force of the Facebook monster during a child murder enquiry, that was only resolved thanks to some first class people in the FBI doing me a huge favour. As a consequence I have always viewed FB as a sinister force. No doubt I am wrong but hey ho.
