Mollwitz Village

On the given signal,Romer [ John Reidy] brought on half of his heavy cavalry command from behind Gunnigen hill, much to the consternation of the Prussian infantry commanders.
The Austrian musketry fire was more effective than the Prussians, and their garde began to take a bit of a pasting.
The Austrian light cavalry continued to tie up the Prussian cavalry, and things were in the balance,as on the Prussian move they attempted to send the third brigade to cover the Prussian right flank. The attempt was a failure. The Prussian command was now strung out and whilst still a formidable force was not able to deploy, exploiting its strengths.
Romer elected to charge the Prussian infantry, and with a good throw was able to contact the front units of the Prussian line. In the centre the Austrian infantry continued to hang on and shoot up the Prussian garde.
Another poor showing by the Prussian infantry allowed the Austrian cuirassiers to inflict more casualities on them, which caused the Prussians to rout off table.

  2. Well, there was certainly something uncharacteristically wrong with the way my Prussians performed today. Apart from the Black Hussars who repeatedly beat off three times as many Austrians for most of the game our other cavalry couldn't get moving and when we did have an opportunity we failed our command test. The Prussian infantry did what they were supposed to do but the the supposed benefits given them in the rules didn't work for them at all in the scenario. Given that we were going to have to go the timid Austrians so it didn't matter about them being unreliable, and the odds were that our attack was bound to falter and become unco-ordinated as indeed it did.

That said it was a challenging game and it could have gone very differently if the dice had fallen differently. Frederick managed to stick around until the bitter end too, instead of legging it early as he did in real life!

Spectacular game but IMO the rules do not work for SYW - no feel for the period at all and I have already put my copy up for sale on ebay!
